Spotlight On: Vibe
If you have a deficiency of Puerto Rican break dancing superheroes in your diet, look no further! The New Fifty Two has re introduced Francisco Ramon in his own standalone title as well as Justice League of America. Who is this Vibe, you ask? Read on.
Originally more of a joke character, Paco Ramon was the leader of a street gang called Los Lobos. After the formation of the Justice League Detroit, Ramon decided apply for membership, taking advantage of his natural(?) seismic vibrational abilities.
The New 52 version of Vibe is a young Puerto Rican named Francisco "Cisco" Ramon. On the day the mad god Darkseid invaded Prime Earth(this is more or less the apex event of the New 52) Cisco was caught in the event horizon of a Boom Tube. Five years later, Cisco is approached by Agent Dale Gunn of A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans) and offered a chance to join the Justice League of America, which in this continuity is the Government Sanctioned superhuman team, the original Justice League having been formed independently.
Because of being exposed to interdimensional winds, Cisco's internal vibrational frequency is out of sync with the rest of Earth Prime. This results in his inability to be photographed clearly, as well as his vibrational frequency becoming agitated when in the vicinity of anything not from his home dimension. Cisco also gained some sonic vibration powers that can be emitted through his hands. Amanda Waller, director of A.R.G.U.S mentioned that his powers could theoretically shake the earth apart. I'm also pretty sure they make dubstep sounds. His sonic powers interdimensional nature also allow him to disrupt the Speed Force, making him one of a very few characters who can pose a serious threat to the Flash.
Although Justice League of America's Vibe only ran a few issues before being cancelled, we can expect the trades out soon. Its written by Geoff Johns, so go check it out!
